Two New Prison Bike Workshops Open

NEW WORKSHOPS OPEN AT HMP WYMOTT AND HMP PETERBOROUGH
We are delighted that the new bike workshops at HMP Wymott and HMP Peterborough have taken in the first trainees.
Plans were first put in place to set up a new workshop at HMP Wymott in June 2021 but due to the ongong pandemic it wasn’t until the 2022 that significant progress was made in getting things up and running. Instructor at HMP Wymott, Andy has been busy setting up his workshop over the last few months and on Monday 11th July the first trainee signed up to start learning all things bike maintenance on offer.
Andy is sure that word of mouth will mean that the workshop is soon up to it’s full capacity of trainees and he’s keen to start refurbishing bikes. Andy is a Velotech qualified instructor so will be delivering accredited qualifications up to Velotech Gold to the learners in his workshop.
Thanks to funding secured by MCF the conversion from an unused space to a bike workshop at HMP Peterborough began in June 2022. The first trainees began work stripping bikes for spares in July and the instructor, Tim, attended the Velotech training course in August 2022, ready to start offering accredited qualifications to trainees by the end of 2022.
