Community
Tackling the challenges in the criminal justice system starts with youth in the community.
Annually, we work with around 150 disengaged and marginalised youth in Bradford. Our bike programmes offer a transformative opportunity to break free from the cycle of re-offending.
Our four-week youth programme teaches young people to strip down unwanted bikes and rebuild them with support from our trained bike mechanics. At the end of the course, young people can take home their newly refurbished bike, as well as lights, a lock, and a helmet.
Anastasia, an eight-year-old who recently came over from Ukraine, was so happy to receive a bike!
After attending our youth programme, our trainees reported that:
felt better about themselves
learnt new skills
made new friends
We have workshops across the Bradford area

Bradford Bikery
The Bradford Bikery is our community workshop in the BD5 area of Bradford, on the bottom floor of a housing association tower block, on the edge of Bradford city centre.
The Bikery refurbishes bikes, provides training in bike maintenance, and offers volunteering opportunities and placements, as well as a friendly workshop space where people can come and repair their bicycles.
We work with local residents, those from the wider Bradford community, and people who are referred to us by other organisations.
The Bradford Bikery is done in partnership with Housing Association InCommunities who very generously rent us the space at a subsidised rate.
We run FREE four-week courses for youth mechanics courses at the Bradford Bikery – if you’re interested in joining, please email darren@margaretcareyfoundation.org.uk or message 07552 995334
Shipley Bikery
The Shipley Bikery is our community project in Shipley. To raise money for the charity, we sell a proportion of the refurbished bikes from our prison workshops, at affordable prices.
