Tackling the challenges in the criminal justice system starts with youth in the community.

We run bike-based programmes for at-risk young people across Bradford, offering structure, support, and real opportunities. We work in one of the most deprived areas in the UK, serving a racially and culturally diverse population.

Our flagship course, Bike to the Future, is a free four-week programme where young people learn to refurbish bikes with support from expert mechanics. They leave with practical skills, a fully equipped bike, and a sense of achievement.

We also run a weekly programme in partnership with Bradford Youth Services, supporting young people involved in or at risk of serious violence, exploitation or criminal activity.

Beyond our youth-focused initiatives, we also host free sessions for the wider community. These workshops are flexible and responsive to local needs. This work is only possible thanks to community support and partnership.

Last year:
💥 450 took part in our community programmes
💡 100 trained through Bike to the Future
🔧 175 refurbished a bike to keep for themselves

Our trainees face complex barriers. Recent surveys tell us:
  • 60% receive free school meals
  • 40% have care responsibilities,
  • 80% are not attending school
  • Nearly 90% have had contact with the police.
  • Over 40% speak English as a learned language

We support communities across the district through multiple hubs and workshops, these are our spaces across Bradford:

Shipley Active Travel Hub

The Shipley Active Travel Hub is a collaborative project promoting walking, cycling, and low-carbon travel in the heart of Shipley.

Run in partnership by UpCycleCapital of CyclingShipley Town Council, and Kirkgate Community Centre, the Hub offers an accessible, community-rooted space that helps more people choose active, sustainable ways to get around.

📍Find us behind Shipley Town Hall at 5 Windsor Court, Windsor Road, BD18 3EU.

Bradford Bikery

The Bradford Bikery is our friendly community bike workshop just on the edge of the city centre. Based on the ground floor of an InCommunities housing tower, it’s a space for fixing bikes, learning new skills, and connecting with others.

We refurbish bikes, run free training in bike maintenance, and offer volunteering and placement opportunities. Local residents, referrals, and anyone from the wider Bradford community are all welcome.

📍Find us on the Ground Floor of Buchan Towers, Radwell Dr, Bradford BD5 0QS, UK

Shipley Bikery

The UpCycle MCF Bikery is our Community Bike Shop in Shipley, helping fund our work while getting good-quality, affordable bikes into local hands. We sell a selection of refurbished bikes, including those restored through our prison workshops, with all proceeds supporting our charitable programmes.
