Taking over an organisation from its founder after 10 years in the job is no easy task. Doing it during the middle of a global pandemic makes it even more interesting! `There can be no doubt that charities, like most other organisations, are facing some really tough economic times as funding sources dry up and many community projects become more challenging to operate.
Having said this, it is not all doom and gloom as there continues to be both the need and opportunity for charitable organisations like MCF. As bikes form a core element of our operating model, we are benefiting from a strong recent resurgence in cycling. I believe this increased interest in healthy outdoor activities combined with a greater focus on our environment are here to stay, providing MCF with great opportunities both now and in the future. As the world tries to return to some degree of normality, MCF is also well placed to offer new skills and an increased feeling of self-purpose to both adult and youth offenders as well as those in our more vulnerable communities. In times of crisis it is very easy to focus on whats going on at home. MCF will also continue working to support our international charity partners as they work in other countries, who have had less infrastructure and resources to tackle this global pandemic.
Im excited to be working for a dynamic charity with such a dedicated group of trustees, staff and volunteers. As we move through this period of global uncertainty, I believe MCF is well positioned to build on its strengths and continue to help those that have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID19 pandemic.
I would like to wish David well in his retirement and personally thank him for the amazing contribution he has made through his involvement with MCF over the past 10 years. I look forward to building on that legacy to ensure that MCF continues to make a valuable contribution to our society in the future.
