Farewell to MCF Trustees

After nearly 10 years on the board, former chair, Ian McDonald, has stepped down.

Ian was a teacher and headteacher for 37 years. He was born and raised in Middlesbrough but moved to Bradford in 1975 to work in a range of schools in Bradford and Kirklees. For 20 of those years he worked in the special education sector and says is he painfully aware that a ‘scandalous proportion’ of young people with special educational needs end up behind bars.

In retirement he has moved to Bingley.

His interests are diverse but include travel, golf, gardening (particularly for food) and is a keen amateur musician and singer. He is secretary to Steeton Male Voice Choir and is a member of a local folk group called Rakish Paddy.

Ian is married with 3 adult children.

Ian joined the board in 2010 serving as chair from 2013 until June 2018.

Also leaving the board in September 2019 is Brian Brady

Brian is originally from Glasgow but having moved and lived in various parts of the country following his 30-year career in retail, now lives in West Lancashire with his wife and 2 children.

Brian has worked in charity retail for the past 12 years and is currently the head of retail and trading for the Air Ambulance Service. Through his work in the third sector Brian recognises and values the opportunities that volunteering can bring to young people and those from disadvantaged backgrounds who want to improve their lives.

In his spare time Brian loves walking, swimming and socialising with friends and is also a member of Maghull Musical Theatre Company, his local amateur dramatic group.

Brian joined the board of trustees in March 2017.
