Mark Flannagan
CEO
MoreMark Flannagan
Mark has an extensive career in the charity sector, including as a Chief Executive of a national cancer charity. His near 40-year career includes extensive experience in delivering communications campaigns, policy and public affairs influencing, crisis media programmes and much more.
Mark has also been a Trustee of different charities covering environmental issues and supporting families in need.
In 2014 Mark took up cycling specifically to take part in Ride London 100. He has remained a keen road cyclist ever since. He has completed Ride London 100 four times, as well as London to Paris and numerous sportives. He has also completed the Great North Run half marathon.

Jamie Hanslip
Operations Manager

Until 2017, Jamie had enjoyed a very successful career in Retail Management. From 1997 to 2017, Jamie managed stores for 2 well-known chains across 8 different cities in the UK, mainly in the South of England.
Having taken time off work to care for his sister, Jamie returned to work completing an ILM programme through Incommunities at the Shipley Bikery working with the team there for over 6 months.
Having loved his time at the bike shop and becoming enthused by what the charity is trying to achieve and its positive impact on the local community, Jamie jumped at the chance to come back in a permanent role helping to expand the retail operations. Having worked for the charity full time for over 3 years, Jamie recently moved into the role of Operations manager in September 2023
Outside work, Jamie enjoys time with his 2 young children.

Lilian Jones
Fundraising Manager

Lilian previously raised funds for a cycling charity based in Vancouver, Canada where she also managed cycling programmes for adults learning to ride and indigenous youth. Before that, she was Students’ Union President at the University of Sheffield, where she led a team of seven officers and helped launch the University of Sheffield’s first Sustainability Strategy.
She grew up cycling, cycled from London to Paris at 12, and has been a keen cycling advocate since. She is excited to support UpCycle in providing training opportunities, resources, and environments that support rehabilitation.
Outside work, Lilian loves to cook and walk her dog, Kipper.

John Hyde
Senior Mechanic and Trainer at the Shipley Bikery
MoreJohn Hyde
John joined MCF in 2015 as a volunteer bike mechanic and began working for us in 2016 as a part-time sessional bike trainer, paid for by a Santander SEDA Award.
John now works full-time in our Shipley Bikery, repairing and selling bikes and helping drop-in customers learn about basic bike maintenance. John is a keen cyclist (he owns 3 bikes and half a vintage tandem) and an experienced mechanic.
John received a Primrose Award from the CIAO Foundation which paid for him to complete a Level 2 City & Guilds in Bike Mechanics. In 2019, John completed the Velotech Platinum Plus qualification, enabling him to deliver accredited training. John has also completed a Level 3 City & Guilds qualification that will enable him to deliver City & Guilds bike maintenance training.

Darren Reed
Community Development Lead

Darren is a lifelong cyclist and bike tinkerer, who started with UpCycle as a workshop volunteer in 2017. Darren’s volunteering led to a 6-month work placement through the Incommunites STEPs scheme in 2018. Darren started in 2019 as the Youth Projects Coordinator, completing training to become a qualified cycle mechanic and trainer.
Darren now works as the Community Development Manager and is working towards setting up UpCycle’s City and Guilds cycle mechanics training centre in Bradford. Darren also works within the Bradford community, delivering various bike schemes and projects designed around empowering young people, vulnerable adults, low-income families, and other beneficiaries who can benefit from the support and training UpCycle offers.
Darren can usually be found in the Bradford Bikery or at any community cycling events that have coffee and cake.

Suzanne Bristow
Retail and Logistics Coordinator

Suzanne has spent the majority of her career in a variety of care roles in both public and private settings. Having qualified as a nursery nurse in 1993 Suzanne spent several years in pre-school nurseries, returning to Yorkshire to raise her son after 2 years as a private nanny in London. Suzanne spent 14 years as a teaching assistant at a local primary school supporting children’s academic and social development, teaching them new skills, and helping them to believe in themselves.
Suzanne first heard about UpCycle through a friend and was keen to get involved so she applied immediately when the logistics coordinator role was advertised.
Outside of work, Suzanne enjoys spending time with family and friends. Suzanne is a big football fan, she supports Leeds United and loves attending matches with her son. Suzanne’s other great love is music and she believes attending live gigs is one of the best things in the world.

Glenn O’Bridge
Shipley Bikery Mechanic

Glenn went straight into the army at 16 and served ten years in the Coldstream Guards. After returning to civilian life, he managed a pub for four years. Following this, he worked as a bicycle mechanic for local family run bike shops that had been going for multiple generations. After partly retiring in 2004, Glenn was keen to keep building and restoring bikes from home. He became involved with the Shipley Bikery in 2019. In 2020, he set up Horsforth Cycle Solutions as a community project that provided affordable cycle maintenance to the local area. Glenn has been involved in cycle touring and maintenance for many decades and enjoys supporting others who share the same passion for cycling.

Kerrie Wale
Community Projects Coordinator

Kerrie brings years of experience in community cycling projects, disability advocacy, instruction and teaching for both children and adults.
Kerrie is now using these skills at UpCycle to help young people & adults gain confidence and independence through deliviery of cycling & bicycle mechanics activities.

Kayleigh is a youth work specialist with over seven years’ experience in safeguarding, crisis intervention, and supporting vulnerable young people. At UpCycle, she works on our Breaking the Cycle programme, helping young people build skills, confidence, and brighter futures through cycling.
