Our board of volunteer trustees donate considerable time, expertise, and guidance to support UpCycle’s strategic direction. We would like to thank our past trustees who donated time, talent, and hard work to establish the charity and oversee its development.

Bill Schofield
Chair of Trustees

Bill joined the board of trustees in December 2016 and took on the role of chair in June 2018.
Working for the National Offender Management Service in an assurance role, he has extensive professional experience in rehabilitating individuals with offending behaviour and is drawn to the UpCycle ethos of helping support those who wish to make changes to their life through training and employment.
With considerable experience in school governance, Bill has spent over 16 years leading governing bodies in both primary and secondary schools and brings a wealth of experience in good governance.
In his leisure time, Bill enjoys country walks with his dog Milo and travelling the country on caravan holidays with his wife and daughters.

Steph Mallas

Steph has worked within the voluntary sector for over 25 years operating at a senior executive level for much of that time in several organisations including work with young people, homelessness, and health. This experience has enabled Steph to gain a creative commercially focussed approach to organisational development and sustainability, focusing on governance, people management, quality assurance, and business planning. Steph is also a Mentor and Assessor for a quality assurance model and hopes that her experience overall can benefit UpCycle.
Steph has taken on the role of Treasurer and is keen to use her experience learned from other voluntary sector Trustee/Director roles.

Roger Armstrong

While Roger hails originally from London he has lived in the Bradford area since 1972.
On retiring from the solicitors’ practice he set up with two colleagues in 2003, Roger had more time to develop new interests and joined the board of trustees in May 2019.
UpCycle appealed to Roger as it linked his working and leisure life’s various stages. Initially working for a charity in Leeds as a Social Worker with adults and children who had impaired hearing, he then worked for Bradford Council as both a social worker and social work manager with a particular focus on children and families, including engagement with the criminal justice system. Roger then retrained as a solicitor and worked from 1992 until retirement in mid-2018. He specialises in trust work, which includes charities.
Roger is a keen social cyclist in his leisure time, which led him to the UpCycle website. He can also be seen out several times daily with Dug, the chocolate Labrador.

Mohsin Shafiq

Mohsin Shafiq has over a decade of experience in leading numerous branding and marketing transformation programmes, emphasising insight and a customer-centric approach for developing propositions while delivering an enhanced brand and customer experience.
Currently, Mohsin Shafiq is employed by ISS Worldwide as the Global Head of Brand and Marketing. He spearheads the global brand strategy across more than 40 countries and actively involves himself in social value projects across various countries. Previously, Mohsin has held various roles in marketing, bid development and strategy roles at Sodexo and Serco Group across contracts in Justice and Defence sectors.
Residing in York, United Kingdom, Mohsin is passionate about marketing and technology to create social impact.

Rhianon Williams

Rhianon joined the board of trustees in September 2022, supporting the fundraising and impact data team. She has been working in the criminal justice system for 12 years, both for ministries of justice and for community organisations. Her professional focus has been on developing and implementing initiatives to bring communities and prisons closer and training prison and probation staff in the skills they need to support effective rehabilitation of people in prison and sustainable reintegration on release.
Rhianon lives and works in Germany and runs her own non-profit organisation.

Toseef Khan

Toseef joined the board of trustees in September 2022. Toseef was born in Bradford and is the Director of a CIC working with young people to divert them from involvement in the criminal justice system. Toseef was excluded from school at 14 and first entered the criminal justice system at 15, serving numerous prison sentences. Toseef is now committed to working to change the system and society to make it more conducive to rehabilitation, empowering communities and individuals to make positive changes one step at a time. Toseef was keen to join the board of trustees as his core values and beliefs are closely aligned with the principles of UpCycle’s work.

Paris Nelson-Wallace

Having joined the board of trustees in December 2023, Paris is a progressive with passions in social science discourse, criminal justice interventions, and human rights activism. It was the prison and community work UpCycle does that initially attracted him to the organisation. He has rich lived experiences around the criminal justice sector having been raised in an inner city environment where gang violence and incarceration is normalised within the community.
Paris has accredited training in trauma informed care alongside other higher educational achievements relevant to the criminal justice system. He has the utmost respect for the mission and direction of UpCycle and hopes to bring a unique perspective of value to the board of trustees

Larissa Engelmann

MoreLarissa Engelmann
Larissa was looking for ways in which to support local community projects and was instantly convinced by MFCs/Upcycle’s great vision and fantastic with Prisons and the local community. Having previously led a cycling project for minority groups in Edinburgh, she is passionate about the ways in which bicycles can bring people together and develop a sense of empowerment. She is also an avid cyclist herself always looking for new routes to explore. She has a Bronze Velotech qualification (Bike maintenance) and would love to use some of this knowledge to further support some of the on the ground work of the organisation.
Larissa works as a researcher within the Vulnerability and Policing Futures Research Centre at the University of Leeds on projects seeking to improve police’s engagement with vulnerable groups. She has extensive knowledge and partnerships within the criminal justice system as well as local community groups, which she will use to further support MFCs/Upcycle’s mission. She is passionate about supporting vulnerable groups and local communities and developing meaningful rehabilitation programs by empowering people to live their lives to their full potential.
