Our Patron, Margaret Carey
Margaret Carey’s career spans local education, international development, and extensive work with marginalised communities. In 1993, Margaret established the Inside Out Trust, pioneering restorative justice projects across prisons in England and Wales, and chaired the Restorative Justice Consortium. She has also served as Chair of Circles UK and Sussex Pathways, contributing significantly to prisoner rehabilitation and reintegration efforts. Additionally, Margaret’s public service includes seven years as an Independent Member of the Parole Board and twenty-three years as a magistrate.
Originally named the Margaret Carey Foundation, our organisation was founded in 2010 with Margaret as Patron, delivering a range of prison and community-based projects primarily in the north and north-east of England. To improve brand recognition and clearly reflect our mission, we recently changed our name. Margaret continues her active community involvement, including founding the Hurst Festival in West Sussex and contributing to various charitable causes. In recognition of her extensive service to the charitable sector, Margaret was awarded the MBE in 2001.
Our Trustees
Our board of volunteer trustees donate considerable time, expertise, and guidance to support UpCycle’s strategic direction. We would like to thank our past trustees who donated time, talent, and hard work to establish the charity and oversee its development.

MoreRoger Armstrong
While Roger hails originally from London he has lived in the Bradford area since 1972.
On retiring from the solicitors’ practice he set up with two colleagues in 2003, Roger had more time to develop new interests and joined the board of trustees in May 2019.

Roger then retrained as a solicitor and worked from 1992 until retirement in mid-2018. He specialises in trust work, which includes charities.
